I will give an introduction to the generalized Ramanujan conjecture on automorphic forms. Then I will discuss some recent progress, joint with Dennis Gaitsgory and Vincent Lafforgue and building on other works in geometric Langlands, provide a suitable version of the result for general reductive groups in the setting of unramified automorphic forms over function fields.
