Professor Weinan E  will receive the 2019 Peter Henrici Prize at the 9th International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics, July 15-19, 2019 in Valencia, Spain.

SIAM and ETH Zürich jointly award the Peter Henrici Prize to recognize original contributions to applied analysis and numerical analysis and/or for exposition appropriate for applied mathematics and scientific computing. The prize is awarded for broad and extended contributions to these subjects more than for a single outstanding work. The award is made every four years at the International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM). The selection committee recognizes professor E for his "breakthrough contributions in various fields of applied mathematics and scientific computing, particularly in nonlinear stochastic (partial) differential equations, computational fluid dynamics, computational chemistry, and machine learning." The committee's statement continues: "Weinan E's scientific work has an immense impact and has led to the resolution of many long-standing scientific problems. His signature achievements include novel mathematical and computational results in stochastic differential equations, the design of efficient algorithms to compute multiscale and multiphysics problems, particularly those arising in fluid dynamics and chemistry, and his recent pioneering work on applying deep learning techniques in scientific computing."
