The Mathematics Department and the Council on Science and Technology are pleased to announce a Public Lecture by Jordan Ellenberg, Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor of Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Professor Ellenberg's talk, "How to Get Rich Playing the Lotter* (*Will Not Actually Help You Get Rich Playing the Lottery)," will recount the story and the mathematics behind a student group at MIT that found a loophole in the Massachusetts Lottery's Cash WinFall game and pocketed over $3 million.The talk will be Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 3 P.M. in McDonnell Hall Room A02.
