Meeks, Pérez and Ros conjectured that a closed riemannian 3-manifold which does not contain any 2-sided closed embedded stable minimal surface must be diffeomorphic to a quotient of the 3-sphere. In this talk, we show that there is a counterexample to this conjecture and discuss how to modify it in order to become true.
