Plane quartics over R

The classical theory of plane quartic curves is a beautiful piece of 19th century mathematics, filled with interesting topology and combinatorics. In this talk, we discuss the situation over R, including topology of the real points, bitangents of the quartic, determinantal representations of the quartic, and representations of the quartic as sums of 3 squares of quadratic forms.
