Terence Tao *96 received the James Madison Medal, the highest distinction for graduate alumni, which was presented in Richardson Auditorium during the 111th Alumni Day ceremonies on February 21, 2026. Tao's research in both pure and applied mathematics has contributed to compressive sensing (used in signal processing and cryptography) and number theory.
