Professor John N. Mather passed away Saturday, January 28th at his home in Princeton.Professor Mather completed his doctorate at Princeton in 1967 under the supervision of John Milnor, and held positions at IHES and Harvard University before returning to Princeton as a professor in 1975, a position he held until his death.
Throughout his career Professor Mather received numerous awards, including membership in the National Academy of Sciences, the NAS John J. Carty Medal in 1978, a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1989-90, the AMS Birkhoff Prize in 2003, and most recently the Brouwer Prize in 2014.
The University flag over East Pyne will fly at half-mast in his memory January 31st through February 2nd.
