Several remarkable results have recently been proved on the derivation of kinetic equations. However basic questions pertaining to their local and global well-posedness remain unanswered. This is particularly delicate for strong solutions to kinetic equations with hard potentials. In this talk I will present both global well-posedness and local ill-posedness results in that setting. This is based on joint and upcoming work with Ioakeim Ampatzoglou.
