I will discuss a pair of new local limit theorems on nilpotent Lie groups, which treat a general driving measure subject to a moment condition and permit testing against a test function which is translated arbitrarily on the left and right.  The limit theorems extend more restrictive limit theorems of Breuillard and Alexopoulos.  Part of the work is joint with Diaconis.
