One of the many papers released by Open AI this month concerns the 3-primary analog of the Kervaire invariant problem, which it claims to have solved by means of a very delicate calculation spanning 90 pages.  I will review the stable homotopy theoretic history and background, and describe  their  approach to the relevant homotopy fixed point spectral sequence.
