This talk will survey known results, due to Masur and Veech on the dynamics of mapping class groups on spaces of measured foliations and their relationship to the dynamics of the Teichmueller geodesic flow and the SL(2,R)-action on the moduli space of holomorphic quadratic differentials (half-translation surfaces).
