I will describe a result (joint with Binyamini, Kiro, and Kozma) situated between these two conjectures.

It is an application of point-counting on tame real sets and functional transcendence. I will touch on the traditional diophantine application of these ideas to highlight the new features of this not-so-diophantine application.
