The configuration spaces of pairwise distinct points in a space are key objects in Mathematics. Understanding various aspects of these spaces contributes to solving many problems of different nature (from knot theory to Spaces of Polynomials, from the existence of convex partitions to the existence of regular embeddings), and the (equivariant) cohomology is one of the key sets of data (and tool) for that.

In this talk we will show some snapshots that illustrate great progress made in the past 60 years, and we will report about some steps backwards, and then forwards again.
