Convex integration is a powerful tool to exhibit "surprising" solutions to certain differential equations. In this talk, I will first discuss Nash's 1954 paper on isometric embeddings of class C^1, in which the technique was introduced. I will then sketch how, in a different context, the technique was recently used to resolve a longstanding conjecture of Onsager regarding the Euler equations of fluid dynamics.
