There are some things money can't buy. For a visa, there's MasterCard
2009.07.24
How much I am spending on applying for a Tier 2 (General) visa to Britain:
- Visa application fee: $424.00
- Return postage: $12.00 (for them to return my Diploma and other originals of supporting documents)
- (Edited July 26, 09 by W) Foreign transaction fee: $13.08 (even though the consulate is in New York, and the line item on my credit card bill states that the charges come from "WP-UKVISA New York", the UK consulate apparently processes the credit card payments through a UK bank, and so I get hit with this...
- Train ticket to Elizabeth, NJ: $17.00 (to go to the USCIS center to get my biometrics taken)
- Translation fees: $75.00 (the British consulate cannot read Latin. Princeton's diploma is in Latin. Go figure.)
- Passport photos: $7.99 (at CVS. They print out 6 at once. I only need 1 (maybe 2), so the real cost is probably closer to $1.50. Then again, I don't have much use for extra passport photos.)
- Postage for mailing the application: around $20.00 (Express mail with return receipt, estimated on the USPS website.)
