There should be no biting in this household

All About Me, Rants

Oz is amazingly nibbly.

I think that is a result of two things: the first is that he has gotten used to his environment and is now "unafraid" to "try new things"; the second is that he has gotten used to not being able to fly and now uses his beaks less as an emergency back-up fall-breaking device, but as an everyday tool to help climbing.

In anycase, he is now much more active (jumps around the cage all the time and makes a racket in general) and more sociable (would not be afraid of people's hands when we reach in for him: he now happily hops on to get out of the cage). But his nibbliness seems to be limited to just fingers and lint (on our clothes). If I try to take advantage of his nibbling and feed him "healthy foods" (like carrots, or fruits, or sesame seeds), he would just turn his beak on me. It's as if he is a little spoiled child who has to do everything he shouldn't do and who avoids doing anything he should. So if you have tender fingers and do not want to have Oz chewing on them, you should glue pieces of carrots to your fingers. -sigh- At least we are getting used to his pooping schedule so we are less likely to be hit by bird droppings.

Lovebirds are notoriously smart, and S and I swear that it is only a matter of time before Oz figures out how to escape from his cage. He already knows that they are three possible escape routes (the little sliding door in front, and the two sliding windows for the owners to change the feed/water easily). I think he has been experimenting to see if he can get those doors open.

He also has this funny habit, where he bops his head for a while before he takes off for a long jump with wings fluttering.

(Just turned to look at the cage again, it seems that S not only cleaned the cage, but also spent some time to rearrange the furniture. I hope Oz is amused.)
