Topological vertex and the instanton calculus

After a brief review of topological vertex I will discuss the topologial string partition function of various geometries and the relation with localization calculations on instanton moduli spaces. I will also discuss a generalization of topological string partition function, inspired by the instanton calculus, which encodes refined integer invariants.
