I was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama, home of Space Camp. I moved to the Northeast for college and have been making slow southward progress since.

I received my Ph.D. from Columbia in 2008 under the supervision of Peter Ozsvath. My thesis is a compilation of results on Heegaard Floer homology, contact structures and open books. You can find my mathematical genealogy here. My real-life genealogy winds through England and Germany on one side, and through Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico on the other.

I just finished a three year joint postdoc at Princeton and the Institute for Advanced Study, where I was partially supported by an NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship. I'm currently a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Princeton, but will be moving to Boston College in the Spring of 2012. I co-organize the Topology Seminar and I organize an informal research seminar here.

I used to spend a lot of time playing Ultimate. From 2006-2010, I played with New York's top club team, PoNY. We finished the 2010 season ranked 10th in North America.
