Lie algebras and Lie groups are important in many areas of mathematics as well as theoretical physics. The course gives an introduction to the topic focusing on: Lie groups and their associated Lie algebra, exponential map, examples; abstract Lie algebras: ideals, solvable and nilpotent Lie algebras; and semi-simple Lie algebras: structure theory, root systems.
