Putnam Math Competition Meeting September 30th.

The first meeting of the Putnam Math Competition is tonight with Professor Gunning at 7:30 in Fine Hall 214.

 

The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition will be held Saturday
December 6th, in McDonnell A01.

Please sign up with LeeAnn Coleman in Fine 315.

For those interested in practicing their problem solving between now and
then, the math department will hold practice sessions. Anyone interested is
welcome to attend these sessions.

Andrei Pohoata '14 cited by USA Mathematical Olympiad

Andrei Pohoata '14 has been cited by the Mathematical Association of America for his work as a grader for the Mathematical Olympiad and for the two problems he submitted for the contest. The citation reads, "A primary purpose of the USAMO is to encourage young people to excellence in problem solving and encourage them to cintinue in mathematics as a career. Mr. Pohoata provides a wonderful role model as a mathematician who continues to be involved."

Alex Iriza named salutatorian

Mathematics major Alex Iriza was named this year's salutatorian. Iriza will graduate with a certificate in the Program for Applied and Computational Mathematics, and will return to Princeton in the fall to pursue a masters degree in computer science.
