Title: Linear and nonlinear waves in periodic structures
Abstract: This will be an expository talk in which I discuss novel behavior of waves (linear and nonlinear) in periodic structures. Experimental techniques permit the writing of novel lattice structures in optical fibers. The behavior waves in such structures is of considerable interest in the design of optical communications systems and optical devices. We focus on problems in mathematical analysis which arise.
