Applications of wavelet methods to the analysis of radar data. Plus a short discussion on current projects.

Abstract: We consider reconstruction problems arising in the context of radar signal analysis. There are two major topics where wavelet algorithms have been successfully applied, namely the reconstruction of continuous reflectivity densities and the analysis of discrete meteorological radar data. The first problem can be treated by using the specific reconstruction and approximation properties of wavelet frames whereas the second one can be treated by a suitable variant of classical wavelet thresholding, i.e., there are two different treatments for very similar radar problems. To overcome this deficiency has to find a uniform setting for both, the concept of reflectivity densities and meteorological models.

Discussion (further current projects):

  • Regularization of Sobolev embedding operators (related to inverse problems).
  • Construction of wavelet frames on homogeneous spaces (construction of Modulation-Besov spaces).
  • Construction of wavelets via uncertainty principles.
