Professors Vlad Vicol, Tasho Kaletha and Seven Graduate Alumni Named 2015 Sloan Fellows in Mathematics

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation recently announced the list of 2015 Sloan Research Fellows. Among those chosen are Princeton’s Vlad Vicol and Tasho Kaletha and Math graduate alumni Richard Bamler, Boris Bukh, Vivek Shende, Andrew Snowden, Jacob Tsimerman, Melanie Matchett Wood, and Hau-tieng Wu. Also chosed was Lin Lin, a PACM graduate alumnus.

Public Lecture: Jordan Ellenberg - How to Get Rich Playing the Lottery, December 11, 2014

The Mathematics Department and the Council on Science and Technology are pleased to announce a Public Lecture by Jordan Ellenberg, Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor of Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Professor Ellenberg's talk, "How to Get Rich Playing the Lotter* (*Will Not Actually Help You Get Rich Playing the Lottery)," will recount the story and the mathematics behind a student group at MIT that found a loophole in the Massachusetts Lottery's Cash WinFall game and pocketed over $3 million.

Barry Mazur Will Deliver the Minerva Lecture Series this October 14,15 & 17

Professor Barry Mazur will deliver the Fall 2014 Minerva Lecture Series. Mazur received his Ph.D. at Princeton in 1959 and is currently the Gerhard Gade University Profesor and Senior Fellow at Harvard. Mazur's reserach focuses on number theory, automorphic forms, and algebraic geometry. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and counts the Veblen, Cole and Steele prizes among his many accolades.

This year's lectures will be held on:
Tuesday, October 14 at 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday, October 15 at 4:30 p.m.
and Friday, October 17 at 4:30 p.m.
