Mathematics Major Alexander Iriza Presented Class of 1939 Princeton Scholar Award

The Class of 1939 Princeton Scholar Award is given to the undergraduate who, at the end of the junior year, has achieved the highest academic standing for all preceding college work at the University. This year, the award is shared by Alexander Iriza and Katherine Pogrebniak.

Recent Ph.D. Grad. Jonathan Luk Presented Silver Prize of the New World Mathematics Awards

Jonathan Luk, who received his Ph.D. in Mathematics at Princeton in June, 2012, has been presented the Silver Prize of the New World Mathematics Awards (NWMA) for his thesis, Linear and nonlinear wave equations on black hole spacetimes (advisor: Igor Rodnianski).

Prof. Sophie Morel wins inaugural AWM-Microsoft Research Prize in Algebra and Number Theory

The inaugural 2014 AWM-Microsoft Research Prize in Algebra and Number Theory is awarded to Sophie Morel in recognition of her exceptional research in number theory. The citation states that Morel is a powerful arithmetic geometer who has made fundamental contributions to the Langlands program. Congratulations to This Year's Putnam Competition Winners!

Congratulations to all of the winners from this year's Putnam Mathematical Competition, where the Princeton University team received honorable mention. Bowie Liu '13 ranked in the top 25 participants and received a $250 award. Receiving honorable mention from Princeton were: Arka Adhikari '16, David Corwin '13, Eugeni Dimitrov '13, Bumsoo Kim '16, Ante Qu '15, Zev Rosengarten '13, Alexander Smith '15, and Matthew Superdock '13.

Xinyi Chen '15 awarded $100,000 Thiel Fellowship

Mathematics major Xinyi Chen '15 has been awarded a \$100,000 "20 under 20" fellowship from the Thiel Foundation. The fellowship awards 20 students under 20 years of age with \$100,000 over two years to start a company. Chen had participated in the Tigerlabs startup accelerator last summer and has founded a company aimed at improving telepresence and video chat technologies for mobile devices. For the full article in the Daily Princetonian, click here.
